Role of Diet in Oral Health
Our diet affects different aspects of our body health including oral and dental health, mainly intake of sugar based food items & drinks exposes our teeth to multiple risks. Tooth decay is one such complication accelerated by such dietary sugars.
- Food enriched with high fibre content & less sugar such as whole grains, fruits, vegetables, protein sources like chicken, fish, eggs are recommended
- Try to avoid sugary food items like cakes, sweets, pastry, chocolates, candy
- Calcium rich dairy products should be incorporated in daily diet
- Plenty of water intake
- Use of sugar-free chewing gums
- Avoid acidic drinks such as cold drinks
- Do not have snacks frequently in-between meals
- Regular twice brushing, flossing and interdental cleaning habits help maintain oral hygiene
